Unlike other Europeans, we were given the opportunity to choose whether or not Ireland should ratify the Lisbon Treaty and I believe that we all have a responsibilty to make an informed decision in such circumstances.
I tried my very best to unearth the pros and cons of the Treaty so that I could vote intelligently but neither side of the argument was putting forward cohernet, consistent, mature and sensible information to help me!
Whenever my intellect can't tell me what to do I rely heavily on my intuition, and my intuition was screaming No!'
I have no idea whether or not the Lisbon Treay is good for Ireland, or for Europe, so my No vote was not really about the Treaty. It was a statemnet of confusion and a rejection of both sides!
So, it's not really correct to say that the No campaign was successful.
If we are asked to vote again - and I'm sure we will be - I will be adopting the same approach.
If I cannot clearly see the long term implications of entering into a treaty like Lisbon, if either side of an argument try to confound me with jargon or vague information, if my brain is not absolutely certain what a Yes vote will do - I'll be voting No again - and again - and again!
